Why is this important? The answer is found in Ecclesiastes 3:11: He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart.
In our hearts, God has placed eternity. We have a longing inside of us for something more…something we think a relationship, an achievement, or something we buy behind the counter to make us more beautiful will satisfy. God is the only one who can fulfill what our hearts are hungry for.
Wanting marriage or a better marriage, children, healthy body, or a thriving business are good goals to have. But when we make these goals our life goals or our priority—more than eternity God set in our hearts—we will be disappointed with what we hoped this year would be.
As we become more like Jesus, our wants and desires will grow and change. We won’t crave what the world offered us last year. I John 2:16 says: For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.
There is beautiful waiting for you this year. Invite God into every area of your life. Let your singleness or your marriage be a trailer for the beauty of the gospel and pointing others to Jesus and His soon coming.
