He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?"
Genesis 3:1
Truth is a beautiful thing. No one knows this better than satan. His plans are to take advantage of your being alone and isolated, especially during this coronavirus pandemic, to make you believe in half-truth to draw you away from God.
The enemy knows you are most vulnerable when you are by yourself. Cunningly, his tactic is to get inside your head and make you question the Word of God. He wants you alone so he can lie to you and present you with fake news.
Fake news didn’t just start. It began in the Garden of Eden when Eve was deceived by the enemy’s lies. Scripture does not necessarily imply that Adam was with Eve when she was deceived, but it does mention that Adam was with her when she ate the forbidden fruit.
But let’s not lose sight of the enemy’s big picture which is to make Eve and even us believe his half-truth.
Half-truth is defined as a statement that conveys only part of the truth, especially one used deliberately in order to deceive someone.
The enemy’s half-truth was crafted to make Eve feel as if she was losing out on something she was entitled to. Nothing makes us question God’s commandments or His will for our lives than feeling like we are missing out on something we deserve.
It is important to know that satan knows scripture. He even quoted scripture to Jesus in Matthew 4:6-7: "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written: "'He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'"
Think about the last time the serpent hissed in your ear the “Did God really say” question?
Did God really say you can’t live with someone if you are engaged?
Did God really say it’s okay to hoard rather than give to others?
Did God really say not to be angry with your children?
Did God really say Jesus will give you a husband?
Did God really say cursing comes from a dirty heart?
Did God really say not to drink if it hinders your witness?
Did God really say Jesus was the only way to God?
Did God really say sexting is a hint of sexual immorality?
Did God really say when the prayers of a husband won’t be answered?
There is “good news”! You don’t have to be deceived by the “Did God really say” lies of the enemy.
Defeat fake news with the truth of the “Good News” of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Know what the Word of God says for yourself and quote scripture back to the enemy. Know that anything that can’t be backed up by the Word of God comes from the enemy.
Truth is a beautiful thing. Memorize and hide these scriptures related to truth in your heart when the enemy wants to deceive you with half-truth:
John 14:6 - Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 8:32 - And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. 2 Timothy 2:15 - Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. John 4:24 - God [is] a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship [him] in spirit and in truth.
